Pension Benefits for Survivors – Update and Clarification

It had come to our attention that the language in my recent Quarterly Dispatch article may have caused confusion and concern from members and their spouses. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify my comments and educate our membership and spouses.

The cases I referred to were individual cases, requesting financial help after the death of a member. Qualified surviving spouses, that meet the criteria outlined in the City Charter, will get a survivor benefit. Additionally, those that meet the criteria receive the health subsidy.

It is vital everyone educate themselves and their spouses. Like taxes, death is inevitable and will affect us all. The LAFPP website has a complete and comprehensive handbook. All your questions can be answered.

Please take the time to click on the link below. Study it, and discuss the material with your spouse and family.

I hope this clears up any confusion and further educates our members.

On behalf of our staff and the LARFPA Board of Directors, I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
