The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association (LAFRA) received notice from Unum that as of February 1, 2026, they will no longer accept new enrollments into their Group Long Term Care (GLTC) policies. This decision reflects shifts in the market and evolving customer needs.
Significant changes in the Long-Term Care industry, such as increased life expectancy and the growing need for extended care have led to higher claims costs and premium increases. These increases are necessary to ensure the product remains actuarially sound, which in turn protects your coverage and Unum’s ability to fulfill claims. Unum anticipates continued rate increase activity to address the evolving demands of this business and has therefore made the decision not to accept new applications after February 1, 2026.
