About the Benevolent Association
The Los Angeles Retired Fire and Police Benevolent Association® is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit public charity, incorporated in 2007. The organization files its annual IRS Form 990 under a private foundation classification.
The Benevolent Association was funded in 2008 through a 501(c)(3) trust awarded in 1991 by the Superior Court to LARFPA, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit mutual benefit membership corporation. The trust consisted of the remaining assets of the Los Angeles Fire and Police Retirement Center, a 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1968 by LARFPA members.
Although the Retirement Center was dissolved in 1991 after it became financially impractical to construct housing for retirees, its mission of providing temporary financial assistance continued through the trust. Today, the Benevolent Association proudly carries forward that same tradition of support.
Our Purpose
The specific purpose of the LARFPBA® is to obtain resources for and administer temporary financial assistance to pensioners of the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as their spouses, widows, widowers, and dependent parents.
The Benevolent Association does not operate sponsored programs. Its sole focus is providing direct, temporary financial assistance to qualified applicants during times of hardship.
Our Impact
For decades, this mission has provided a financial lifeline to retired first responders and their families facing unexpected medical expenses, housing instability, or other temporary crises.
When those who dedicated their careers to protecting the City of Los Angeles encounter hardship, the Benevolent Association stands ready to assist — preserving dignity, stability, and peace of mind during difficult times.
